Girls Football

KESSP continues to be immensely proud of the participation in girls football across the partnership. Last year saw another record-breaking year for girls engaging in football opportunities through the Barclay's FA Girl's Football Partnership programme in collaboration with Central Partnership.

Girls Go Shine Football - 7th July 2026

The Girls’ Football in Schools Partnership is delighted to pass on the brand-new Future Lionesses Talent ID Checklist, created by the brilliant Talent Education Team at The Football Association.

England Football’s Women’s Talent Pathway uses a set of “Future Lioness Characteristics” (attached) to help identify girls who may have what it takes to shine on the national stage. These characteristics highlight the early signs of potential elite-level ability—and now, you can use them too!

To help bridge the gap between school football and the national talent pathway, the Talent Education Team has developed a schools-focused checklist. This tool enables teachers and coaches to spot emerging talent using the same criteria applied within clubs, Emerging Talent Centres, and Discover My Talent ID sessions. It covers both outfield players and goalkeepers, making it easier than ever to support girls into the next phase of their football journey.

And there’s more…

We’re teaming up with the FA Talent Education Team to deliver a GO Shine talent identification day in Summer Term 2026!

Empowering the next generation of female football talent in schools.

The Go Shine event will be made up of a number of different technical and tactical stations, coupled with some 3v3 mini games.

We will be inviting schools to bring your most talented players in Year 5 or 6 - whether they play school-only football, grassroots club football, or are already part of an Emerging Talent Centre or Pro Game Academy.

We’re Looking for Girls Who…

· Show creativity and bravery on the ball

· React quickly, stay agile and think fast

· Excite in possession and work hard out of possession

· Problem-solve when things get tough

Goalkeepers Who…

· Handle the ball confidently

· Play forward with quality

· Defend their goal and space with bravery

· Use their physical strengths to impact the game

We will have staff from Aston Villa Women’s FC, Birmingham City Women’s FC and England in attendance to provide an opportunity for your players to take their place in the Talent Pathway.
