Aston Boys Take KS3 Basketball Title

KE Aston were crowned Birmingham Schools Champions after one of the most extraordinary finals in recent memory, edging past Windsor Olympus in a thrilling contest that required five overtimes to decide a winner. The match will be remembered not just for its endurance-testing length (apologies for any students who were late home!!), but for the composure, leadership, and resilience shown by both sides on the biggest stage.
KE Aston and Windsor Olympus traded baskets relentlessly, neither team able to establish lasting control. The intensity only grew as the game progressed, with defensive pressure tightening and every possession fiercely contested. Aston had the lead going into the second half but a poor 3rd quarter meant that Windsor led going into the final quarter of regulation time. However, a couple of big plays by Aston meant we clawed our way back in and at the end of normal time the scores were deadlocked, setting the tone for an epic night.
The first four overtime periods mirrored the pattern of the main game—momentum swinging back and forth, fatigue evident, yet standards remarkably high. Windsor Olympus repeatedly found answers to KE Aston’s late surges, while Aston responded with grit and discipline to keep their title hopes alive.
As the final buzzer sounded, exhaustion gave way to celebration for KE Aston, who lifted the trophy following a final that will go down as a benchmark for drama and competitiveness.
Well done to all the teams that have taken part in the Birmingham KS3 Basketball League this year!
