The King Edwards School Sport Partnership has existed for twelve years. The first nine years King Edward VI Aston was the sports college at the hub of a partnership of secondary and primary schools. The School Sports Partnership, SSP, was a network, the Partnership Development Manager PDM would lead the partnership with the help of the School Sports Coordinators SSCo’s based in the secondary schools. Each secondary school worked with a family of primary schools and liaised with Primary Link Teacher PLT.

One of our greatest successes was the swimming program we ran with Steve Parry and the temporary swimming pool. Our figures for children achieving 25 metres rose from 3% to 45% with near every child learning to swim.

When the funding was cut in 2012, the School Games program came into place with the PDM in some schools becoming the School Games Organiser SGO, This is a part time post, the main tasks for the SGO are to plan and support a program of level 2 competitions leading to the level 3 events hosted by the city.

In 2012 schools were offered the opportunity to continue with support from King Edwards VI Aston through a package of continuing professional development and coaching programs. A number of schools took this opportunity and we have continued to grow, developing our support package and the number of schools working with us. The schools who are presently part of our partnership are Anglesey, Aston Tower, Benson, Bordseley Village,Brookfield, Chilwell, Cromwell, Holy Trinty,James Watt, Lozells, Mansfield Green, Manor Park,  Sacred Heart, St Chads, St Josephs,  St Francis, Welford and Yew Tree. The partnership is now run by the SGO/PDM and a Sports Partnership Administrator. Apart from fulfilling the role of the school games we work with a number of coaches and are constantly looking for ways to develop and support the schools.
